Now Is The Time For Resilience

Make It Stand Out.

Global pandemic, people dying, lockdown, panic buying, economic doom and gloom, to name but a few of the headlines that greet us every day. Probably not the best way to start the day with the right mindset. But as human beings we are fortunate, we have a choice how we react to any situation, we can chose to hear this news, take the necessary precautions as advised by respective governments and then be filled with sadness and in- action , or we can use these times to re-invent ourselves, to learn new skills, to take the time, forced upon us in many cases, to focus on what and how we will act in the future.

The first option is linked to a fixed mindset whereas the second option is very much a growth mindset approach to the same situation. Adopting a growth mindset helps build your resilience, but what exactly is resilience? The American Psychological Association recently published an article with a very simple and clear definition.

“The process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress — such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors. As much as resilience involves "bouncing back" from these difficult experiences, it can also involve profound personal growth.”

I’m sure we have all demonstrated resilience through our lifetimes, some more than others, what helps to build this “bounce back” are 4 key elements :

1.Build connections with people who care and are empathic

2.Adopt a wellness approach, both mind and body

3.Help others, and be proactive

4.Accept change and remember “what is, is”

Who are you connecting with to help you build your resilience?
